  • Circuit Breaker Test System UPA-6

    2019-08-02

Testing UPA-6. The circuit breaker tester UPA-6 produced load in conjunction with the current transformer 10000/5А, connected with four 1-metre long current leads with a cross-section of 110 mm². Current on the transformer was measured with a comparator. Current adjustment was done with the voltage transformer RNO-80. Voltage on the voltage transformer RNO was measured with a voltmeter, current was measured with a clamp. We set 6 kA, compared with the readings of reference measuring instruments and allowed 1 minute for the overheating protection to be activated.

  • Hi Tech How to find which breaker an electrical socket is on

    2019-08-02

Obviously, one quick way is to shove something metal into the socket to short it out. That should trip the breaker and produce sparks and ozone and excitement at the same time. I don’t recommend it though – especially as I have seen, in older houses, some circuits not hooked up to a breaker (or fuse). In that case this little stunt would could allow you to draw 100 to 200 amps (depending on your main breaker) through probably ancient wires – a good way to make globules of molten metal inside kindling dry spaces in one’s home.No. Far better to methodically search the breaker panel for the circuit you want, even if it means having to reset all your clocks afterwards. Usually I do this procedure with another person who plugs in a lamp or some such and then I flip breakers while communicating by shouting. But what if no-one wants to help and you don’t want to run around the house after each breaker to find out what turned off?And is there something that goes through walls and ceilings as well as or better than shouting? Now is the time to vindicate your habit of storing all kinds of electronic junk just because “this could be useful one day”! Use the not quite latest technology to solved a pretty nineteenth century problem.

  • MG Fire: faulty power strips pose fire risks

    2019-08-02

Problem power strips and power surge protectors could cause fires according to the Maple Grove Fire Department.Homeowner Mike Reichert is now in the process of rebuilding his home after a July 30 fire destroyed his Maple Grove home.“It was devastating, we didn’t know where we were going to sleep that night,” said Reichert. The fire started in the basement. The intensity of the fire shattered the windows. Investigators say a faulty power strip was to blame.Reichert said the power strip he used shorted out. He says it was made in China.“We are finding that we are having problems with electrical equipment that’s coming from China,” said Marilyn Arnlund, Maple Grove deputy fire marshal. Power strips manufactured China are usually made of very thin plastic, and have internal metal components that can come loose, said Arnlund.“We’ve had fires over the years were either it doesn’t have a UL listing, or it’s a very inexpensive made piece of equipment,” said Arnlund.Fire officials are also seeing fake electrical products: Investigators across the country have found some that have been counterfeit. Or they don’t have UL listings on them, said Arnlund.Reichert said from now on he’s going to buy power strips made in the USA.“If you can find American made power strips, or surge protectors, that’s what I’d recommend buying.”Maple Grove fire officials encourage people to only use power strips or surge protectors that have an internal circuit breaker. They also say to make sure to check to see if the product has an UL or ETL listing on the package. Sonya Goins, reporting//twelve.tv/ News is on Comcast cable channel 12 in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis and includes the cities Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley, Maple Grove, New Hope, Osseo, Plymouth and Robbinsdale.
